RunNUS 2011

RunNUS is an annual running event organised by the NUS Students’ Sports Club (NUSSSC). The event aims to generate interest in sporting events and to promote a healthy lifestyle among the NUS population and the public.

Already in its fifth year, RunNUS has grown from a small marathon into an event that defines life at NUS. Being the first major sporting event in the new academic year, it provides a platform for students, staff, and alumni of NUS, to gather with friends and rediscover the NUS heritage.

After the huge success last year, RunNUS is partnering again with NUS’s Annual Giving Campaign. Annual Giving is an annual appeal to the NUS community to help fund university wide bursaries and scholarships, enabling students to have a fulfilling university experience.

The route has been designed with utmost care to take runners through scenic roads with minimal obstacles to ease their pain as they inch towards the finish line. RunNUS would again incorporate the technology of running chips to ensure better accuracy and faster retrieval of race results.

Not forgetting the element of fun, RunNUS will incorporate a carnival that offers on-stage and on-route performances, bazaars, games, and refreshments. The carnival this year would elevate RunNUS’s status from just a running event into an event that paints the whole of NUS with a festive atmosphere.

This event requires volunteers to stayover with accommodation provided. It is also my first time staying over at NUS. We were given the luxury of sleeping in one of the sports halls that is fully air-conditioned. However, waking up in the wee hours of the morning is altogether a different story.
