Singapore Arts Festival 2012

The Singapore Arts Festival 2012 completes a trilogy started two editions ago: Between You and Me (2010), I Want to Remember (2011), Our Lost Poems (2012). Over 16 extraordinary days, the festival features a stunning array of performances that will be close to your heart.

This year’s edition will look at myths, legends, hidden stories, lost riddles, and wandering thoughts. It is a discovery of aspirations and tales that need to be told and retold. Legends that have deep cultural roots, riddles that reveal the secrets of the world, and stories that inspire.

The festival will also highlight the presence of puppetry. This is one of the most important mediums in the region, through which folklore, myths, legends, stories, and teachings are communicated and passed on to the generations to come.

The Sound Of Silence

And in the naked light I saw,
Ten thousand people maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never shared.
No one dares disturb the sound of silence.

Five Levels Of Communications

Level 1: When we communicate in clichés and niceties
Level 2: When we pass on facts and information
Level 3: When we give our judgments and opinions
Level 4: When we share our emotions and feelings
Level 5: When we enter into maximum truth

I have to be free and able to share my thoughts with you. To tell you about my judgments and values, to expose you to my fears and frustrations, to admit to you my failures and shame, to share with you my triumphs before I can be really sure what it is that I am who I am. And I must know who I am before I can act truly, that is, in accordance to my true self. – John Powell

All the things in our lives, all the complicated structures we spend so much energy and time creating, are built on sand. Only our relationships to other people endure. Sooner or later, the wave will come along and knock down what we have worked so hard to build up. When that happens, only the person who has somebody’s hand to hold will be able to laugh. – Harold Kushner, Jewish Rabbi
