Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2013 Nomination of Best Group

In my opinion, the best group in SCMS 2013 is: REPC Counter 2 (Shift 1)

I would like to nominate REPC Counter 2 (Shift 1) because they have perfect attendance (other than one volunteer who fell sick) and were punctual for all three days. Despite coming from different age groups and schools, everyone was able to cooperate and work well together. This made my role as a leader easier as I was able to brief and deploy everyone on time daily.

The group was efficient and proactive when it came to operations. Due to the location of REPC Counter 2, this group faced a larger influx of runners compared to other groups. However, the volunteers did not complain and served every runner cheerfully. The volunteers were firm but polite when it comes to the runner wanting to change shirt size. Knowing that the information counter will be very busy, our group took the initiative to direct the runners directly to the post-it notes board for the runners to indicate the shirt size they would like to swap with another runner. This helped the information counter a lot as they need not face more runners regarding the same issue and may also ease any tensions that might occur. The group was also very knowledgeable with regards to the event. Therefore, we were able to answer most of the questions when quizzed by the runners, which is definitely a bonus for counter crews.

Although this group only volunteered for Shift 1, upon hearing that there was a lack of volunteers for Shift 2, some of the volunteers were willing to stay back and help till late despite some of them staying very far away. Furthermore, this group was very patient with the Shift 2 volunteers during the handing over period even though some of them had to go home later as they had to properly ensure that the Shift 2 volunteers could handle the counter independently. During Shift 2, as there was a lack of counters available for the volunteers, this group took the initiative to replenish the shirts and other items to enable the Shift 2 counters to perform at optimum speed with ease. Doing this definitely made the peak hour more manageable.

Lastly, I would like to say that even if all their efforts might have gone unnoticed by many, this is indeed the true spirit of volunteering. Therefore, I believe that the Best Group of Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2013 is REPC Counter 2 (Shift 1). Thank you.
